Fan Persona + Altar

This week in SLP, I created firstly a fan persona for my project, who was then responsible for creating a shrine, as an obsessive admirer of both my PbRP and the thematics it derives from.

My supplies ranged from several bouquets of flowers, scissors, tape, blu tac, cards, paper, pressed flowers, books about flowers, leaflets of care, leaflets of information.

Within the ritual processes of making and unmaking the shrine, I felt the grounding and foundations of my project as a strong and compelling feeling throughout - I listened to a specific jazz playlist that emulates the vibes and sonic aesthetics of the project, transcending the boundaries between the visual and the audio.

I really enjoyed this process as a practical exploration into the material - bringing the literal flowers into the space as a means of interrogating them, what they mean, what they can do/have done to them.

The process helped me understand the necessity for a blend of mediums, for the literal materiality of floral motifs, of meaning and writing (in the card I wrote, addressed to flowers and expanding on thoughts and connections they create). Thematically, it enhanced my focus on the sentimentality of flowers, their individual meanings, and spirituality.

In the persona making, I channeled it from a place of expertise - seeking a persona with a passion for flowers, and expansive knowledge around them. I’m planning on using these persona making processes in developing an interviewer persona, to enable me to interrogate and research in the ‘real’ world.

as part of the persona’s reflection on + interaction with the shrine, I free-wrote a card to add to the shrine.
