workshop
Our workshop this week began working in groups of four, using each other as valuable resources for research, and sparking new ideas.
We took on the role of ‘expert’, tasked with providing insight into specific questions/topics prompted by the researcher.
In my prompts, I asked:
Flowers as signifiers = what do they say that we cannot?
Conversation as connection = how can we facilitate it?
Temporality = how can time be manipulated?
So many thoughts and ideas came about that I had thought about fleetingly, or at surface-level, but am now inspired to delve deeper into.
Such as:
the breath + photosynthesis = as creating a co-dependency between plants + humans
DELICACY
signs of change, loss, seasons
the trading of language, Babylon
connection as forefront of change
freezing time, through picking a flower
manipulating memory, retelling stories
Key words:
delicacy
change
dependency + collaboration
retelling!
Presentation
I then spent some time collating my thoughts, ideas, and research so far - into making a presentation about my project, and semi-proposal into the types of territories I might like to be working within.
video/audio/interview
curation, collection
exhibition, display
multi-media forms of presentation
display vibes
BEGINNING MIDDLE END
PAST PRESENT FUTURE
temporality, fragility, cycles
flower displays

what do i want to address?
flowers = conversation starters
yes they have meanings, but
what more do they say?
interactive
plant a seed station! take it away (influenced by smashing hearts)
press a flower, pause time
make a paper flower
meaning of flowers
in a literal, sentimental sense = through interviews
in a metaphoric sense = passing of time + impacts
growth
of flowers
of people
cycles
starting physically in the same location they end in - exhibition loops, can enter at any point
taking away a freshly planted seed = taking away a new beginning to nurture
what am i researching?
how to manipulate time - pause it, record it, begin it
what flowers mean to people, why we go back to them despite their fragility
how to cultivate care, connection, conversation
